Kadokage I
A carved recess. A chamber of shadow. Kadokage is a hand-shaped wooden object made from solid pine — hollowed out, charred, brushed, and finished with deep purpur pigment and linseed oil. Its surface bears the memory of fire; its grain shifts between light and dark.
The name Kadokage combines two Japanese words: Kado, meaning “corner” or “edge” — a place of stillness, where attention gently gathers — and Kage, meaning “shadow.” Together, they describe a quiet threshold, a held silence, where presence and absence meet.
Each frame is unique, made to hold a single dried plant or branch. Not just a display, but a moment: the natural held by the crafted, the fragile held by the weight of wood.
Kadokage can be mounted horizontally or vertically, allowing the frame to respond to the form it holds and the wall it inhabits.
It invites closeness. It asks for time. A quiet gesture that turns the wall into a contemplative space.
Hand carved, burned and brushed pine
Inside finished with deep purpur pigment and linseed oil
Dimensions: 48 × 39 × 11 cm
